Part time position: Tourism and Visitor Center Attendant
The City of Jefferson is looking for a part-time attendant to work at our Visitor Center. This position will provide friendly and helpful service to visitors and facility renters, sharing information about local attractions, events, and businesses to help promote tourism and engagement within the community. Answer phone calls and email inquiries. Keeps the visitor center clean, organized, and stocked with brochures and maps. Performs various clerical duties as needed and inspects, logs, and stocks supply inventory for upcoming rental venue events. The City of Jefferson is an equal opportunity employer. - Receives visitors and answers questions; responds to inquiries and refers, when necessary, to appropriate persons.
- Monitor and respond to emails daily. Answers telephone, returns calls, and assists callers or refers callers to appropriate persons.
- Maintains inventory, restocks rack card displays, coordinates with provider for empty rack card spaces, print and restock lodging list, food lists, trail maps, etc. as needed.
- Performs cleaning and upkeep on interior and exterior of the visitor center as needed and inspects, logs, and stocks supply inventory for upcoming rental venue events.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
- Possesses working knowledge of the City of Jefferson, the East Texas region, and able to provide Visitors directions throughout the area.
- Knowledgeable in the use of Internet search engines to locate information, schedules, and other items of interest to Visitors.
- Knowledgeable about area attractions, transportation, dining, hotels and the like for Visitor needs.
- Passionate about customer service and travel with a good geographical knowledge of the area • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of applicable local, state and Federal statutes, rules, regulations, codes, administrative orders, City of Jefferson policies and procedures, and other governing documents.
- Knowledge of the principles of files and records management.
- Skilled in professional telephone etiquette and positive Customer Service communications.
- Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with employees, city departments, the business community, business organizations, the news media, vendors, contractors, the general public and others having business with the City of Jefferson.
- Skill in operating a computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment and enjoy working with people.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
This is light to medium work requiring the successful candidate to lift or carry fifty (50) pounds occasionally and up to twenty (20) pounds frequently to move, lift and push objects. Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle objects. Must be able to stand, walk, and sit up to 1 hour daily. This position does not contribute to TMRS retirement and does not accrue any benefits due to its part time status essential job functions.
